Holland's Ensemble LOOS is known for a variety of projects involving notated music, improvised music, live electronics and avant-garde theatre. They have played at major European festivals such as Donaueschingen Musiktage in Germany, and are passing through the Bay area en route to their performances at the Vancouver Jazz Festival. The music of LOOS is sparse and intense, with abrupt textural and tempo changes. They acknowledge the influence of Japanese Noh theatre, and have been compared to Captain Beefheart.
