The CNMAT Users Group (CUG) will present Ear Foil, a completely improvised concert for cello, violin, voice, and electronics. The work ranges from dense and internal states to billowing, ebullient, and expansive expressions of sound-with some short interruptions in between. Please join us for this free event!

The Center for New Music and Audio Technologies welcomes Hans Tutschku for a colloquium and concert of his music. Please join us at CNMAT on Friday, October 22 at 3pm for the colloquium and 8pm for the concert. Both are free events open to the public.
Hans Tutschku is a distinguished composer. His work has been recognized with many awards and prizes. His music has been performed internationally and he has taught throughout Europe and the US. He currently teaches at Harvard University.
Rafal Zapala, associate professor at I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań (Poland), is working at CNMAT on his Fulbright awarded project entitled "Research into real-time interactive systems for non-linear music composition and performance" during Fall 2021.
CNMAT welcomes international researcher Han Zhang to begin a 2021/22 research residency.
Han will be working closely with Carmine Cella. The focus of the research will be machine learning based methods for music timbre representation, music creation, and other related areas.
Han recently completed her MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University.
Professor Carmine Emanuele Cella being is honored with a residency and concert featuring his works for augmented percussion. The residency and concert is being sponsored by Résonance Croisée, récedences et créations musicales Europe/Québec and will be 7 October 2021. The percussion ensemble Sixtrum will be performing.
Professor Carmine Emanuele Cella has been invited to deliver a distinguished lecture at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) located at McGill University. The lecture at CIRMMT will take place 4 October 2021.
In August of 2021 Jeremy Hunt joined CNMAT as Acting Associate Director after the retirement of Richard Andrews. He brings with him 13 years of experience in education administration and is excited to bring this experience to bear in helping to navigate the complex administrative infrastructure in place at CNMAT and UC Berkeley.
CNMAT has opened its doors again after a long COVID induced hiatus. Everyone in our fall 2021 community is excited to be back on site and engaged in research, teaching, and learning. We look forward to building our momentum again in this upcoming year. Stay tuned for what's to come!
