Caroline Shaw won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her composition, “Partita for 8 Voices.” Join Caroline for a presentation on “Partita” and her current compositional preoccupations, including Punctum, a voiceless opera for string quartet commissioned by Opera Cabal. Following Caroline’s presentation, Majel Connery (Artistic Director of Opera Cabal and Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Berkeley) will moderate a discussion with the audience. This event lasts approximately 1 hr, 15 minutes.

MAJEL CONNERY
Majel Connery (Executive and Artistic Director, Opera Cabal) co-founded Opera Cabal in 2006 with agenerous grant from the University of Chicago. Connery apprenticed with opera director Christopher Alden at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Den Norske Oper (Oslo) and at Chicago Opera Theater. She graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and attained her M.A. and Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Chicago. Majel is currently a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor of Musicology at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Fellow at Berkeley’s Townsend Center for the Humanities.
