CNMAT Visiting Scholar, Jian Feng is a composer, an associate professor and the director of Computer Music Composition and Research Center in Wuhan Conservatory of Music, China. She also serves as the deputy secretary general and the member of the Council for Electroacoustic Music Association of China (EMAC). She has been a researcher in residence at CNMAT since Fall 2016, working on the introduction and translation of CNMAT’s developed tools for composition and teaching materials into Chinese, with the sponsorships of the China Scholarship Council and CNMAT at UC Berkeley.

Rooted in Chinese culture, Jian’s music focuses on combining the essential elements of Chinese traditional music with electronic technologies, exploring the musical interpretations of the less-obvious cultural symbols that need to be revealed while making the most use of the virtuosity technology of the traditional instruments. Her music has been performed at festivals including ICMC, ISCM World Music Days, Frontiers Plus Festival in Birmingham Conservatoire, Symposium Atelier in Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Musicacoustica-Beijing, EMW Shanghai International Electronic Music Week, and Wuhan International New Music Festival.

As an educator, Jian received accolades including State Creative Achievement on Education and Research Prize, National Outstanding Teacher, Hubei Higher Education Study Award, Supervisor Award from China Undergraduates (The Liberal Arts) Computer-aided Design Contest, and Hubei Golden Chime-bells Award.
