Bernd Klug: bass, electronics
Currently residing in Brooklyn, Austrian native Bernd Klug works as a double bassist and sound artist in a wide variety of contemporary contexts with a focus on improvisation. He holds a B.A. in Bass / Popular music from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and is currently enrolled in the MFA program at Bard College, NY. Klug's solo work focuses on the world inside the double bass: the bow, the body, and room frequencies lay the groundwork for a radical reduction of both the composer-performer’s role and the traditional musical narrative. In his recent sound installations, he uses modular concepts to investigate sound as both sculpture and content in order to redesign social spaces. Bernd Klug was recently awarded the “New Austrian Sound of Music” prize for 2014-15. He was granted an educational scholarship at Harvestworks (NYC) in 2012-13, and received the
BM:UKK Startstipendium (federal Austrian grant for artists) in 2011. On this tour Bernd Klug will play a newly designed electric bass feedback tabletop setup.
